abstract = "The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics IBGE has a
vast historical collection of analog aerial photography, stored in
Rio de Janeiro. These photos were the main resources for various
cartographic products published by the institution, mostly
consisted of topographic maps at various scales. To facilitate
searching and accessing this historical data and also to preserve
paper information, once it tends to deteriorate over time, weve
started cataloging information from old schemes which contain the
approximate perspective center of the aerial photos. The first
step consisted in scanning the original schemes. This was a
critical step, considering that in some cases the degradation
stage of paper was already evident. The second step was the
georeferencing process (through the geographical coordinates
collected in the schemes/topographic maps) followed by approximate
perspective center extraction of each photo. So far there were
collected 63,577 points spread across 190 old schemes and 178
topographic maps, with the attributes: photo, flight range and
work block numbers. The subsequent planned stages are: i) collect
the perspective center of other photos using the same
methodological process; ii) survey and fill the attribute table
with others flights information (date, scale, etc.); iii) scanning
process of further analogue photographs; and iv) proceed automatic
registration workflow of the scanned aerial photos.",
